KIDS CAN
Music and journalism for kids, by kids and with kids. Supported by Creative Europe.
2018 - 2022
KIDS CAN combines the visionary music teaching methods with a vision of revitalizing the communication of children’s jazz and jazz for kids. The project includes a tour for young jazz talents followed by a group of children’s journalists who are reporting from the concerts, creating a music experience that is for, with, and by the kids themselves.
The project extends over three years and is executed by JazzDanmark in collaboration with Estonia’s biggest jazz festival Jazzkaar and the impressive jazzclub, Hot Club in Portugal, which also runs the music school Escola de Musica Villa Lobos. A series of Danish partners are also involved in the project such as the Copenhagen Jazz Festival and the children’s journalist education in Billund.
The main attraction of KIDS CAN is the jazz caravan that consists of 15 children’s jazz musicians between the ages of 9-14, 6 children’s journalists between 12-17 years, who annually travels around the three partnering countries to a wide range of workshops and concerts together with music mentors from the three countries.
The bands of KIDS CAN will play at the JazzKaar Festival in Estonia, Hot Club de Portugal in Portugal, and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in Denmark.
