Sounds of Denmark

Ambitious Danish jazz initiative in the UK. Supported by Augustinus Foundation and the Embassy of Denmark in the United Kingdom.

2016 - 2022

Sounds of Denmark is an ambitious Danish jazz initiative in the U.K., marking an exciting collaboration between the two nations. Sounds of Denmark is a jazz festival in London taking place at the legendary venue PizzaExpress Jazz Club, which is also organizing the festival together with JazzDanmark and Sue Edwards Management.

Besides being a Danish jazz festival, Sounds of Denmark is also a program to raise awareness of Danish jazz music and thereby strengthen the demand in Britain for Danish jazz.

The first festival took place in 2016 and had an impressive start with sold-out shows and much attention from the U.K. media, as well as full-length recordings of the concerts on BBC Radio 3, Jazz Now. Also, in 2017, the Jazz Journal and London Jazz News expressed excitement about the Danish artists, who played at the festival.

The festival’s program is entirely based on Danish artists and curated by a British panel consisting of bookers, managers, and journalists following an open call at JazzDanmark’s website.

The 3-year promotion and PR collaboration is an expansion of the Sounds of Denmark project and is a collaboration between JPN - Jazz Promoters Network, JazzNorth, and Baxter PR with financial support from the Danish Arts Foundation and The International Cultural Panel (IKP).
