Summer Session

The 40-year-old music camp where Danish jazz and the top of the international jazz scene come together. Supported by Toyota Foundation and Augustinus Foundation.

Summer Session is a unique post-educational music camp for professional Danish jazz musicians. The music camp takes place every year in August, with international jazz names as teachers. Among many others, artists such as Richard Bona, Kenny Baron, Louis Hayes, Michael Brecker, Eddie Gomez, NHØP, Rob Haynes, Bobby Hutcherson, John Patitucci, Paul Bley, Yusef Lateef, and Geir Allen have taught at Summer Session. The project creates new networks among Danish and international musicians, while also being a great and challenging source of inspiration.

Summer Session has existed for more than 40 years and has proven to be a solid, long-lasting concept that:

  • creates networks, new constellations, and development of music projects between Danish jazz musicians

  • creates long-lasting collaborations with international capacities

  • provides post-education for professional jazz musicians during a week with masterclasses, seminars, rotations between instructors, individual assignments, and homework

  • provides a unique opportunity for absorption and concentration and a break from the normally busy life of a professional musician
